17 Sep, 2003:  Management's announcement about «Alive» and a 3rd single release

A guest entry as indicated made by Sonique's Manager appeared on the message board of www.sonique.co.uk. This is the text: «Sonique's 2nd single of 2003 is 'Alive' and has just recently entered the top 75 this follow on from her massive top 20 hit 'Can't Make Up My Mind'. Sonique is currently taking a break, but will be back at the end of this year with a 3rd single, watch this space [The Sonique Message Board].
Take Care xxx. »
Sonique at Top of the Pops 2000

Meanwhile «Alive» fell out of the UK singles chart after entering only at #70 the week before (update: 14 Sept., 2003). After doing pretty well in the German dance charts (peaked at #21 a couple of weeks ago), now «Alive» climbed from #19 to #10 in the German airplay charts. Will the massive rotation on the radio in Germany lead to a commercial chart success there? 22nd of September is announced as the street day for «Alive». The album will follow there on 6th of October. Since the first single «Can't Make Up My Mind» was not released there in spring, «Alive» may break the market for the album in Germany.

A great Sonique fan from Finland, 41-year-old songwriter Arto Laine, composed a song called «Keep on sweet dreaming» for Sonique's next album (this is his proposal). This is his message:
«Dear Sonique,
I composed the song for your next album. You can listen it on http://www.rarevinyl.de/music/t64_mono.mp3    [2.1 MB duration 4:26]
It's registered but unpublished.
Waiting for your feedback!
Sincerely
Arto Laine »

14 August, 2003:  Sonique at Destiny / Cambridge Street club, 16 August

It's a double date for divas at Destiny this Saturday, 16 August, when two ladies of dance bring their bodies and their beats to the Cambridge Street club.
Sonique, who has just completed her second album, «Born to be free», and is about to release her new single, «Alive», next month, is the first of the fine femmes of dance to top Sonique the bill.
At 6ft 2ins tall with her heels on, Sonique's stature and strong personality means she towers head and shoulders above most dance world divas.
Despite once saying she'd give it all when she grew bored with the scene, she is back with a vengeance to play and perform. She told Beverley Lyons of the Evening Times: "I've been DJing every weekend for the last two years and have been around the world. I wanted all the people who have bought my records all over the world to hear my DJing."
From Egypt to Israel, Romania to Russia and Singapore to South Africa (where she recently drew a 30,000-strong crowd), clubbers everywhere have been dazzled by her turntable skills.
With little time for a social life, she likes, when she gets the chance, to drive her Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, walk her dog - a much pampered pet who even gets his own hotel room if reports are to be believed - ride her bike and play on her PlayStation.
Somewhere along the line she found the time to write her second album, «Born to be free». Produced by Graeme Pleeth, who has produced for Peter Gabriel, Billy Ocean, Kim Wilde, and Appleton, and Robin Barter, who has worked with Freddie Mercury, Kylie Minogue, and Norman Jay, the new album shows a more grown-up side to Sonique.
Lucy Carr Sonique says: "I hope I've made something people can keep, something that'll never go out of style." Excerpts from the album will feature in Saturday night's show.

The second lady to take to the stage at Destiny this weekend is Sonique's support act Lucy Carr. Lucy, for those of you not familiar with her face, is the voice behind top dance tracks «Missing You» and «This is Goodbye», released at the end of last month.
«Missing You» was nominated by Dave Pearce as his Record of the Week on his Radio 1 show and has also featured on many of the top compilation albums of 2003. Lucy cuts quite a figure in the club world.

22 July, 2003:  Next single due September / Sonique DJ's at Hyde Park

Sonique's new single which is the second one from her second album «Born to be free» will be it's opening track «Alive» - a wise decision of her record company because it is one of the strongest songs on her new album and ever recorded. Most of her fans prefered this track as the new single release too. The announced release date in the UK is September 1st. It is strongly expected to have a more successful run at the charts as «Can't make up my mind» had. This first single stayed 4 weeks in the UK singles top 75 (no. 17 - 33 - 37 - 57 in May and June 2003).

Sonique will be playing a guest DJ set for BBC Radio 1 Live on Saturday the 26th July between 7 and 8 pm. The set at Hyde Park is part of London's Gay Pride events that day.

19 May, 2003:  New Single - New Album - UK Website launched

The eagerly anticipated second album from British singer/songwriter Sonique is finally announced for release on June 2nd, 2003. It is called «Born To Be Free». The first single to be released from the album today is the hauntingly beautiful track «Can't Make Up My Mind» which features an unforgettably poignant melody accompanied by lushy textured sweeping strings. For tracklistings and lyrics click here ...

UK Mix.org wrote about the single: "Although it may not be as instantly catchy as her huge No. 1 «It Feels So Good», this record still has the ability to continue the success she found three years ago. It has a fantastic video too. Look out for her new album out soon." We surely do.

Keen to maintain a degree of consistency to her music, whilst simulteanously delivering a fresh sound, Sonique enlisted the expertise of producers Graeme Pleeth, and Robin Barter, who have also worked on «Hear My Cry» already. The new album «Born To Be Free» shows a more grown up side to Sonique. Seriously song-orientated, it blends her diverse influences whilst cohering seamlessly as a whole. Each song contains powerful and emotive lyrics inspired by Sonique's own life experiences, showcasing her trademark sounds, whilst demonstrating an unmistakable development in her music. With her new album Sonique concludes, "I hope I've made something people can keep for the whole of their lives, something that will never go out of style." With the opening track «Alive» you can hear immediately one of the strongest songs of the album, a really hot candidate for the next single ...   For more info about the album click here ...

Definitely worth to mention is the launch of Sonique's UK based official website www.sonique.co.uk these days. Click the link below and visit the site. You will find some tracks of the new album as Windows Media/Real Media streams there. You may also download Sonique ringtones, a screensaver and wallpapers.
