DJ Sonique - Club Mix

DJ Sonique - Club Mix

Double CD «DJ Sonique - Club Mix»
(July 2001) - Cat. No. Virgin VTDCDX 383

Chart-topping DJ/chanteuse, Sonique has a slight advantage over her contemporaries when it comes to creating a mix album - she can sing. Thankfully, no-one else on the big-name DJ circuit has yet taken up this challenge as Sonique has on her live club mix Serious Sounds. Imagine the potential horror of Brandon Block or Sasha attempting to croon over their sets and suddenly you can appreciate Sonique's talents all the more. On this compilation though, she keeps the vocal interludes to a respectful minimum, preferring instead to let the music and her mixing do the talking. Starting out with Silicone Soul's impressive "Right On Right On", disk 1 sees the female phenomenon blend together everything from silky, chugging house tracks such as Colours' "The Guitar Track" and Xtra Large's "Mind Made Up" to breakbeat feasts such as the Plump DJ's "Scram" and Beber and Tamra's "Travelling On". The second disk is set aside for the more aggressive side of things, with progressive pumpers like DJ Tiësto's "Flight 643" and Tomba Vira's "The Sound Of: Oh Yeah". Throwing in a special live performance of the Energy 52 "Café Del Mar / Feel So Good" bootleg for good measure, Sonique has made a pretty good job of an album that caters for most musical tastes.

Sonique      An alternative review by
     Perfect Beat.com:

We've been watching Sonique grow as an artist for nearly a decade and the woman just seems to get better every year. From her humble beginnings as the voice of S'Express, to paying her dues as a serious club DJ, capping it all off with her climbing the charts all across the world with her solo material. It felt so good. Sonique's latest project brings her back to the turntables, where she proves her talent both as a singer and DJ in this 2CD set. Sonique's legendary club sets have been known to include her singing live over the tracks, and you've got front-row tickets to the performance on Club Mix. The question on everybody's lips - does she sing "It Feels So Good"? And the answer is YES! Not only that, but Sonique's taste in music is beyond impressive. Few DJs can pull off a mix that features Storm's "Storm", Delerium's "Innocente", and Ratty's "Sunrise" all on one CD... but then there's not a lot of artists as cool as Sonique.
